If your volume is predictable and someone can run and maintain the equipment, buying is worth exploring. If every job is a one-off and your team has no capacity to learn maintenance, outsource. Don't choose based on which product name sounds more modern. A Canon color laser printer won't cut acrylic, and a CO2 laser cutting machine shouldn't replace the office printer. Define the job first. Then compare ownership and outsourcing against the work you can actually sustain.
